Medal project for the 2024 Paris Olympics Games: a medal to be shared, for real
After creating the Olympic Flame for the games of Albertville, Philippe Starck accepted, on the request of the multi-Olympic medalist Tony Estanguet, to create the medal for the candidacy of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The candidacy of Paris 2024 as well as the Medal were presented on Tuesday July 11th July, 2017 in Lausanne in front of the 89 IOC members, and in the presence of the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and the co-president of the bid committee Paris 2024 Tony Estanguet.
Defeats and victories are collective. Behind these athletes who reach for excellence, there are the invisible hands that accompany, support and sculpt the body and mind of the champions. It is on this idea of Olympic reward as collective outcome to be shared that Philippe Starck imagined this medal to be “made for sharing”.
"The medalists will be able to take their medal, split it and give away three other medals to their loved ones, their supporters as a token of their success, such a great moment of self surpassing." Ph.S
And thus offer a fragment of their dream came true.
