Libraries Without Borders celebrates 10 years of Ideas Box

“When we have lost everything and there is nothing else left, the only thing that cannot be taken away is the ability to dream.” Ph.S

In 2014, in collaboration with Philippe Starck and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Libraries Without Borders developed the IDEAS BOX, a unique concept of media libraries in kit form for populations affected by humanitarian crises.

IDEAS BOX is equipped with a satellite internet connection and touch-screen tablets, electronic and paper books and a mobile cinema, and are aimed at children and adults alike. Standardized, easily transportable and deployable in the field, energy self-sufficient, simple to use and robust, IDEAS BOX represents a major innovation in terms of access to culture and information in crisis situations.

IDEAS BOX fills this void, giving people struck by catastrophe the means to read, write, create, and communicate. By providing access to the Internet, books, educational resources, theatre, and films, the Ideas Box empowers individuals and communities to begin the difficult process of reconstruction.

160 Ideas Box have been deployed in over 26 different countries, helping more than 1 million people in crisis situations every year.
